Seed Renewables is proud to announce the successful energisation of the RENOLIT solar PV project, delivered ahead of schedule in partnership with Zestec Renewable Energy and powered by Octopus Energy Generation.
The project supports RENOLIT’s manufacturing operations in Northumberland, where energy-intensive processes — including major machinery and multiple calendar presses — result in an annual electricity demand of approximately 13.5 GWh. This high and consistent energy usage makes on-site renewable generation an effective and impactful solution, delivering long-term energy resilience, cost certainty under Zestec’s PPA model, and measurable carbon reduction.
Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) partner, Seed Renewables have provided a turnkey solution — from design and planning through to construction and installation plus O&M maintenance.
Project Overview
The scheme comprises a 1.76 MW dual rooftop and carport solar PV installation, designed to maximise available space while significantly increasing on-site renewable generation and consumption.
Key system details:
- System size: 1.76 MW
- Total solar panels: 3,886
- Projected annual generation: 1.47 million kWh
- CO₂ reduction (Year One): 331 tonnes
- Forecast on-site PV usage: 97%
Installed infrastructure:
- Rooftop installation: 1,982 solar panels
- Carport installation: 1,904 solar panels installed across a dual gullwing carport structure in a 220-space car park
- 30 km of DC cabling
- 10 km of AC cabling
- EV charging infrastructure
Working with carport manufacturer SiG, Seed Renewables designed and delivered the largest format carport system available, with solar panels installed in portrait configuration to optimise generation.
Delivery and Collaboration
The project was delivered within a live 24/7 manufacturing environment, requiring detailed planning and coordination to ensure zero disruption to day-to-day operations. Completion ahead of programme was achieved through strong collaboration between all project partners, proactive planning, and a continued focus on health and safety, quality control, and effective project management.
Simon Wilson, CEO, RENOLIT, commented:
“Many thanks for your efforts, promotion and good cooperation on the project. We’re very pleased with the end result and looking forward to enjoying green energy for many years to come.”
Russ Kelsall, Senior Project Manager, Zestec Asset Management, added:
“Seed Renewables have delivered a high-quality dual rooftop and carport scheme, completed ahead of programme with excellent control of health and safety. Their clear communication and proactive approach to problem-solving is reflected in the finished installation, and we look forward to working with the team again.”
Lee Heath, CEO, Seed Renewables, commented:
Lee Heath, CEO of Seed Renewables, commented: “Delivering this project ahead of schedule within a live manufacturing environment reflects the strength of the project team and the close collaboration between RENOLIT, Zestec Renewable Energy and Octopus Energy Generation. We’ve greatly valued working with Russ Kelsall and the wider Zestec team throughout the project.”
This project represents a significant step in RENOLIT’s energy transition, delivering clean, on-site renewable energy that will provide long-term operational and environmental benefits both now and into the future.
